My 1972 Ford Mustang Mach 1 The infamous points style ignition is very simple, easy to work on, and in some cases lasts for a long time. In my case, I was not so lucky. I was replacing points way too often, and it became far too evident that the stock distributor was the cause. Rather than purchase a new points style distributor, I went with a MSD ignition system so I would never end up having to change a set of points again. Problems Shifting to Reverse and 4th I have problems shifting into reverse on my Mach 1, which is actually normal, due to the fact that reverse in the toploader 4spd transmission does not have a synchronized reverse gear. All factory 3 & 4 spd first gens have this difficulty. I also have experienced difficulty from time to time shifting to 4th. I am still in the process of tracking this down, but hope it lies in the shifter assembly itself, and not with the synchronizer assembly. 0-60 - 6.87 with 2.19 60' 1/4 Mile Time - Yet to come! 1/8 Mile Time - 9.86 @ 73mph 2.27 60' |
