My 1995 Ford Mustang GT If you have a aftermarket shifter on your Mustang, chances are you're putting up with a lot of gear whine and other noises from the transmission. Go to Lowe's or some similar Home Improvement style store and buy at least 4 1/2" sink washers and 2 metal washers just large enough to cover the face of the sink washers. Cut a large enough hole in the sink washers for the shifter handle bolts to fit through, then put a metal washer on one bolt, then a sink washer, then the handle, then another sink washer. Now bolt the shifter handle back up, and enjoy a quieter ride. Be sure to check the bolts from time to time to make sure they're not coming loose. Almost all Mustangs with lowering springs have squeaks rattles and other interior noises that aren't so pleasant. What I did to help remedy this problem was judicious use of double sided tape. This tape has a foam padding, and can be used to eliminate many of these noises. At around 100-110k miles, the car developed a horrible shake at any engine speed. It was independent of speed, as even at idle while sitting still the car was very shaky. With just a few minutes of exploring, I found that the harmonic damper had begun to separate. After installing a new damper, all was well. I had a problem with starting the car after driving for some time. Whenever the car would get warm, it would take forever to start, but once it fired up, it ran beautifully. I replaced the stator (pickup) in the distributor, and now all is well. Idle Surge After Cam Install A very common problem with the '94-95 GTs is an idle surge, or search, after installing an aftermarket camshaft. Sometimes this gremlin will even arise with the stock cam. A good list of things to go through to try and eliminate the surge, if you have one, is the following: Check TPS voltage - adjust in the .97v at idle range After I ran through the list, my problems were solved for the most part. I ran back into the problem again after I installed my '93 Cobra intake. I am trying to find a IAB to install between the IAC valve and the throttlebody. The '87-93 style throttle bodies do not have this feature like the '94-95s do. 0-60 - 6.19 with 2.09 60' (stock - measured with Tazzo Performance Calculator) 1/4 Mile Time - 14.62 @ 93mph 2.08 60' (stock - measured with Tazzo Performance Calculator) 1/8 Mile Time - 8.158 @ 89.87mph 1.954 60' (May 4, 2006 at Piedmont Dragway in NC) |
